Why is Wyoming the perfect place to be during the late summer season? Long days, cooler temps, less crowds, starry nights and – in some cases – great local discounts. And Brooks Lake Lodge & Spa is again showing the love to Wyoming residents with their “Locals Love” value pricing deal during their late summer season.
There will be no summer crowds to compete with as Brooks Lake Lodge accommodates a maximum of 36 guests at a time in lodge rooms and private cabins, creating an intimate environment that includes a posh 2:1 staff to guest ratio. As the Travel Channel put it, “You arrive with your partner and suddenly, your life becomes one where everything is taken care of for you.”
With spectacular meals from acclaimed Chef Whitney Hall, guests can enjoy fresh and unique menu items that have been hailed recently by Food & Beverage magazine and the Los Angeles Times. With dinner entrees that include a tenderloin of beef roulade and Cajun diver scallops, and lunches featuring ahi tuna wontons over a nutrient-packed seaweed salad and the always popular elk sloppy Joe, foodies can get their fill of innovative dishes.
The lodge is also offering Wyoming residents the opportunity for deep relaxation with a 60-minute massage at the on-site Rocky Mountain Spa. And the spa’s 11-by-17-foot hot tub is open to guests looking to take a soothing soak while basking in magnificent Pinnacle Mountain views.
Late summer guests can take in the glorious natural surroundings with a variety of outdoor activities available that allows them to choose favorites without paying for unused services. Popular activities available at the lodge and led by experienced guides include a two-hour horseback ride; a two-hour fishing trip; and a morning or afternoon hike. A peaceful canoe paddle and archery practice are also available on site.
Tucked deep in the Shoshone National Forest, guests of Brooks Lake Lodge can relax on a real getaway with a clear connection to nature. As one guest put it after a hike at Brooks Lake Lodge, “Until I was at Brooks Lake Lodge, I never imagined what it would be like to look in every direction and see NO buildings. This is a life-changing experience.”
Popular website MSN Travel recently released its picks of “The best all-inclusive resorts in the United States,” featuring 30 resorts around the country with Brooks Lake Lodge & Spa at the front of the list. As the article states “When does a vacation really feel like a vacation? When all-inclusive rates that wrap in food and fun activities mean you’ll only have to reach for your wallet once during your stay.” Brooks Lake Lodge agrees – and encourages guests to leave their wallets and cell phones behind as they enjoy the breathtaking outdoor scenery from the lodge’s location deep in Wyoming’s Shoshone National Forest near Yellowstone National Park during activities and hearty gourmet meals next to a roaring fire.
The MSN Travel piece shared all-inclusive resorts from Vermont to Texas, Alaska to Wyoming, providing a surprisingly strong variety of options for travelers seeking a truly great all-inclusive experience. The article praises “romantic guest ranch” Brooks Lake Lodge as “one of the finest all-inclusive resorts in the U.S.”
The term “all-inclusive” applied to a hotel or resort can raise visions of crowds of people eating from a mediocre menu or buffet. At Brooks Lake Lodge, the maximum occupancy is 36 guests at a time, so there are no masses to compete with, and the 1:1 staff to guest ratio ensures a top-service guest experience. Meanwhile, the cuisine has a stellar reputation of its own.
All meals at Brooks Lake Lodge are included in an overnight stay, with the thoughtful, freshly made, locally sourced dishes created by the resort’s acclaimed Executive Chef Whitney Hall. Hearty Western breakfasts are followed by a lunch menu with such tasty offerings as the Sublette Sandwich, with breaded chicken served on a house-made biscuit with honey sriracha aioli, a Buffalo Basin Sloppy Joe on toasted garlic bread or the Pintail Salad featuring spinach with confit duck, goat cheese, pretzel crostini and house-made balsamic bruschetta. The decadent dinner menu includes Korean-style short ribs with a soy ginger glaze, crispy rice and roasted bok choy or peach wood-smoked brisket with braised seasonal greens and duck fat-roasted red potatoes. In short, guests are never hungry or underwhelmed by the lodge’s culinary scene.
Another scene that doesn’t underwhelm is the breathtaking scenery surrounding Brooks Lake Lodge, the backdrop to the many inclusive activities for guests to enjoy. Winter guests can enjoy snowshoeing, cross country skiing, ice fishing or snowmobiling through nearly two million acres of varied terrain (snowmobile rental fees do apply). And in the summer guests can hike the stunning trails, fish in the lakes and rivers surrounding the lodge, canoe, compete at archery or enjoy a scenic horseback ride.
Relaxing and rejuvenating spa treatments are available for guests at the onsite Rocky Mountain Spa, which offers separately priced facials and massages and boasts an included-with-stay sauna, fitness center and enormous 11-by-17-foot hot tub overlooking Brooks Lake and the Pinnacle Buttes.
Immersed in pioneer-era ambience and its peaceful surroundings, the remote Brooks Lake Lodge — accessible in winter only by snow coach, snowmobile or cross-country skis — sits hidden away in Shoshone National Forest, but within easy driving distance to Jackson Hole, Yellowstone National Park and Grand Teton National Park. Nature-rich outdoor activities and sumptuous accommodations combine for an indulgent escape in this easily reachable winter wonderland with an off-the-grid feel.
The end of summer can be tough to accept, but Brooks Lake Lodge & Spa is making the season’s finish something to celebrate with a new luxury late summer fishing special that’s sure to be a catch. The lodge’s “Reel in Late Summer” package gives fishing experts and beginners alike a unique opportunity to fish the scenic lakes and rivers around the lodge, angling for rainbow, brook and brown trout, Yellowstone cutthroat and more in a three-night package that includes accommodations, all meals, one fishing license per guest, the use of fly and spin rods and an experienced guide.
“Fishing is much more than fish. It is the great occasion when we may return to the fine simplicity of our forefathers,” said Hebert Hoover. And creating an experience that honors history and a simpler way of life is something Brooks Lake Lodge has been doing for almost a century. Built in 1922 as a stopover for travelers headed to Yellowstone National Park and listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the lodge tempers authentic Old West style with modern luxuries, ensuring an experience that’s both rugged and refined. With activities such as fishing, horseback riding and archery, the lodge unites its guests with nature and the traditions of the American West in a way that’s experiential and fun while providing the amenities and service of a top resort.
The “Reel in Late Summer” special allows guests the chance to explore the picturesque mountain region around the lodge with an experienced guide. Beginners can practice their casting on the convenient pond out front before taking their skills to Brooks Lake or nearby rivers and streams. And experienced anglers can check advice on where to go and leave the guide behind to explore on their own.
All meals are included in every overnight stay, and Executive Chef Whitney Hall’s creations have earned the lodge’s culinary experience titles like “the best meal in the middle of nowhere.” Hearty Western breakfasts are served each morning, and lunch options include Red Rock Nachos with house-made tortilla chips, sautéed red onion, artichoke hearts, asiago cheese sauce and roasted duck; a Sagebrush Salad with pesto noodles, heirloom tomatoes, ricotta cheese, spinach, dehydrated corn and a poached egg; or a Sublette Sandwich on a house-made biscuit with breaded chicken breast, honey sriracha aioli and slaw. And dinners include such gourmet offerings as Roasted Buffalo Prime Rib with a Wyoming Whiskey au jus, horseradish whip cream, sautéed haricots verts and loaded mashed potatoes or Peach Wood-smoked Brisket with braised seasonal greens and duck fat-roasted red potatoes.
Shown seated horseback in a beautiful meadow in the mountains of Wyoming, popular family travel writer Melynda Harrison shared her family’s visit to Brooks Lake Lodge & Spa in a recent article for Outdoor Families Magazine. “With a background of striated cliffs, a creek running over a mountain edge into a thin cascade, and late summer wildflowers hanging on for just a little longer all around us, I decided this might be one of the best family vacations we’ve had,” Harrison writes.
Located in the Wyoming Rocky Mountains between Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks, Brooks Lake Lodge creates experiences that connect its guests to the stunning natural surroundings in a manner that honors the generations of adventure seekers who have visited the lodge throughout the lodge’s nearly century-long history. The guest ranch provides a blend of country living with outstanding accommodations, gourmet dining and five-star service that allows families to truly disconnect from the tech-filled, everyday routine and log into days of exploring the scenic mountains, meadows, lakes and rivers with no people, buildings, vehicles – or digital screens – in sight.
As travel expert Melynda Harrison of TravelingMel described for Outdoor Families Magazine about her experience at the lodge with her husband and two sons aged 10 and 11, “One of the things we love about trips like these is the opportunity to spend time together in spectacular surroundings. Even when choosing different activities, we had two days to wander and talk as a family. I think the best conversations happen on a trail, whether on foot or horse, when there is time to share what’s on our minds.”
The lodge offers a variety of choose-your-own-adventure outdoor activities such as horseback riding, fishing, hiking, archery, canoeing and kayaking, all of which can be enjoyed with or without a guide. Kids tend to forget about their iPads and engage in the rugged brand of fun that comes with the dude ranch lifestyle. And parents can relax knowing that the all-inclusive experience means no cooking or ordering meals based on price as the meals are notoriously delicious and included in a stay, no cleaning and no overthinking. In addition, the 36-guest limit for the resort’s seven lodge rooms and eight private cabins ensures all needs are tended to and the service is VIP for everyone.
Evenings can be spent playing board games by a giant crackling fire or at the on-site Cowboy Bar where kids can play shuffleboard or air hockey and sip on hot chocolate while parents sample a delicious Manhattan cocktail made with locally-produced Wyoming Whiskey or perhaps a huckleberry margarita, incorporating the wild-foraged mountain berry.
Over the decades the lodge has become a very special place for families to experience and return to, often making an annual visit to the lodge a tradition or a place for reunions. As Harrison explains in Outdoor Families Magazine, “Doing whatever we wanted to do, eating what we wanted to eat, entirely surrounded by mountains and meadows… this is a family vacation we definitely want to repeat.”
With over 4 million visitors traveling through Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Park each year, many of which are families on road trips, Brooks Lake Lodge is an ideal spot to take a few days off the road and explore and relax in the luxuries of the Wyoming wilderness.
A February journey to Brooks Lake Lodge & Spa by SnoWest magazine editor Lane Lindstrom led to an epic two-day snowmobile adventure described as “nearly perfect.” Lindstrom’s publication for snowmobile enthusiasts is known as the authority on how to ride, what to ride and where to ride in the West. As the SnoWest story says of Brooks Lake Lodge “There are many places in the West where there is a perfect mix of the right snow conditions, over the top scenery, varied terrain, good trails and excellent service. But there are fewer places where all those variables work seamlessly to provide the almost perfect snowmobile trip. We say almost because we’re not sure we’ve had the perfect snowmobile trip yet.” Still, according to Lindstrom, the “two- day trip to Brooks Lake Lodge came oh so close.”
The feature on Brooks Lake Lodge in SnoWest goes on to describe rides through blizzards mixed with sunny clearings and 360-degree views of the spectacular scenery that surrounds the lodge. The riders enjoyed sweeping vistas of Pinnacle Buttes, a ride up to the notorious Proposal Point with its inspiring bird’s-eye lake and lodge overlook, cruising into Sublette Pass for more backcountry riding and views of Sublette Peak and Brooks Mountain and accumulating 32 fresh miles of riding. And that was just day one. The second day was even better, with a mix of sun and snow and superb deep-powder conditions. The sledders, led by the lodge’s famed snowmobile guide Skinner Bell and accompanied by General Manager Adam Long, headed straight toward Brooks Mountain and ventured farther north to upper Jade Lake, experiencing a variety of terrain and elevation – and at one point stepping off the sleds into chest-high powder. Day two dialed up 30 more miles on the snowmobiles and lots of memories.
Creating meaningful experiences and lifelong memories is what Brooks Lake Lodge aims to do for every guest. A trip to the lodge is one that is not easily forgotten, and many first-time visitors become returning regulars, making lodge stays a tradition with family or friends. In the winter, the lodge is truly a haven for snow enthusiasts with the kinds of tremendous snowmobiling conditions SnoWest details in its piece, as well as additional fun-in-the-snow opportunities for snowshoeing, cross country skiing, ice fishing and snow tubing.
The lodge transforms into a winter wonderland each season with its typical 400-600 inches of snow per year providing guests with prime riding conditions. Sitting at an elevation of 9,200 feet, the nearly century-old historic lodge offers 2 million acres of scenic territory to explore loaded with stunning Wyoming backcountry views. Guests can bring their own snowmobiles or rent from the lodge’s extensive collection of the latest, including Ski-Doo and Polaris sleds.
Brooks Lake Lodge knows that with great adventures come great appetites, and their Executive Chef Whitney Hall goes above and beyond each season to create innovative, gourmet comfort-food feasts with locally sourced ingredients and often adding flair from her Texas roots. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are included in an overnight stay at Brooks Lake Lodge and are intended to leave guests immensely satisfied and fueled for their day in the snow. During winter, the dining room is also open to the public for lunch only and is a local treasure for enjoying a full day of snowmobiling, cross country skiing or fat biking down the five-mile road to the lodge to enjoy Chef Whitney’s famous fireside midday offerings.
After a day of playing, eating and relaxing, a peaceful and quiet night’s sleep awaits. As SnoWest describes it, “Brooks Lake Lodge accommodations are a cut above the rest.” With a maximum of 36 overnight guests, everyone is a VIP and the 1:1 staff-to-guest ratio ensures personal, attentive, friendly service. Guests can retire to one of the seven lodge rooms or eight private cabins available at the lodge. Meanwhile, spa services such as Deep Tissue or Hot Stone massages are available to book at the onsite Rocky Mountain Spa, which houses an 11-by-17-foot covered outdoor hot tub with breathtaking views of Brooks Lake and the Pinnacle Buttes.
A “Story Book Lodge,” a “Snowy Solitaire,” a “Wintry Western Getaway,” the “Best Place to Relax in Wyoming,” a “Best All-Inclusive Resort in the U.S.” and a “Bucket List Destination” – this is the recognition given by a variety of travel media to describe the experience at Brooks Lake Lodge & Spa, an all-inclusive guest ranch located deep in the woods of the Shoshone National Forest. While Jackson Hole may be the most talked about Wyoming destination for winter travelers, about an hour’s drive away sits the hidden historical gem of Brooks Lake Lodge, perched lakeside at the base of scenic mountain ranges with its own remote wooded charms.
Preparing for a winter stay at Brooks Lake Lodge requires just a few things: warm, comfy clothes, a good pair of snow boots and that book that’s been waiting months to be opened and read. Guests can leave behind the laptops and iPads and forget being attached to the cell phone all day; there is no cell service (though there is WiFi for those must-connect situations). Instead guests should be prepared to go off the grid to explore and play in Wyoming’s magical winter wonderland and to relax in the comforts of the Old West meets New West rustic-luxe accommodations at Brooks Lake Lodge. Basically, guests can just dress for the occasion – be it active adventures in the mountains or a restful night of fireside dinner in the historic dining hall followed by drinks at the onsite Cowboy Bar – while everything else, including wallets, can stay in the suite as all meals are included in an overnight stay as are most activities.
Open for the winter season from late December to mid-March, Brooks Lake Lodge offers the ultimate winter playground for snow enthusiasts including world-class backcountry snowmobiling around the two million scenic acres of snowy wilderness to explore. Experts and novices are all welcome as there is a range of terrain to cruise and experienced guides to lead the tours. With an average of 400-600 inches of snowfall annually the conditions are notoriously impressive and have earned the lodge the name“a bucket list” for adventurous sled heads from American Snowmobiler magazine.
While snowmobiling may be the headlining act, the lodge offers many more ways to be entertained during a winter stay, including a guided snowshoe nature walk through the Shoshone National Forest admiring spectacular landscapes and spotting wildlife such as moose and bighorn sheep. Cross-country skiing is also an option with all the necessary gear available onsite to borrow. And for anglers, ice fishing is an ideal winter activity with the lodge providing everything needed from an ice hut, rod and reel, bait and hooks to hot coffee and snacks. Ice fishers can enjoy “catch and release” fishing or bring the prize back to the lodge where the chef can cook it up for an evening meal. And for the kids – or the kid at heart – as Park City Magazine put it, “extreme snow tubing is a must.” Tubers are transported via snowmobile to the top of a large snow ridge before taking the ride down a long snowy slope. Repeat. Repeat.
Now back to the dining: after all the outdoor excitement, guests can refuel with the fine dining-meets-comfort food menu thoughtfully created by Brooks Lake Lodge’s acclaimed Executive Chef Whitney Hall. Chef Whitney’s hugely popular dishes include lunch items such as the Cub Creek Croquettes with fried grits, gruyere cheese and truffle aioli or the Buffalo Basin Sloppy Joe served on toasted garlic bread. For dinner, guests enjoy such options as honey-glazed duck breast with a persimmon and date chutney served with roasted Brussels sprouts and parmesan smashed Peruvian potatoes or roasted buffalo prime rib with a Wyoming Whiskey au jus horseradish whip, cream sautéed haricots verts and loaded mashed potatoes.
The lodge rooms and private cabins at Brooks Lake Lodge for couples feature king-sized, handcrafted lodge pole pine beds, crisp linens, goose down comforters and terry cloth spa robes. With a maximum of 36 people per night, each guest of Brooks Lake Lodge is a VIP and can expect superb customer service from the friendly staff. The relaxing onsite full-service spa provides complimentary use of the tranquility room, dry sauna, fitness room and an 11-by-17-foot hot tub overlooking Brooks Lake and the Pinnacle Buttes. Spa services are available for booking at an additional price.

So many things make late summer in Wyoming a pure delight: the long, humidity-free days, the stunning sunsets over dramatic mountain ranges, the roaming wildlife, widespread wildflowers and of course, huckleberry season. The small dark huckleberries, which grow wild on forested slopes in the Rocky Mountain West – attempts to cultivate the plant have failed – are at their peak in Wyoming during the late summer season. Brooks Lake Lodge & Spa Executive Chef Whitney Hall, always on the lookout for the best of regional, in-season ingredients to bring to the lodge’s table, has targeted the 2019 late summer season for a veritable berry food festival, designing an array of new and fabulous dishes for the lodge’s highly acclaimed menu.
All-inclusive pricing means guests can participate in guided or unguided activities around the lodge’s breathtaking mountain setting in the heart of Wyoming’s Shoshone National Forest near Yellowstone National Park. Late summer brings blue ribbon fishing in the nearby lakes and rivers and horseback riding or hiking the many scenic trails, as well as canoeing and archery.
And all-inclusive also encompasses three hearty chef-prepared meals each day along with a daily fireside Governors Tea Time at 4 p.m., with house made cookies and pastries, cheeses and fruits for afternoon snacking. Recently recognized by MSN as one of the Best All-Inclusive Resorts in the United States, Brooks Lake Lodge knows how to create a unique vacation experience where guests can play like a kid, eat like a king and sleep like a log.
Acclaimed Executive Chef Whitney Hall has been multiply honored by sources from the L.A. Times to Food & Beverage Magazine for her innovative and hearty menu items. And her plans for Brooks Lake Lodge & Spa’s new huckleberry season extravaganza are sure to please.
“I enjoy working with huckleberries most of all because they are indigenous to the area and their tart and sweet flavor pairs well with the game meats that I use in my entrees, such as duck and venison,” says Chef Hall. “Also, huckleberries are very versatile in desserts, and they create fabulous cocktails like our signature huckleberry margaritas.”
Some of the special items that will be added to the menu during huckleberry season this year include such breakfast items as lemon-ricotta huckleberry miniature waffles served with a browned butter maple syrup, oat-milk chia-seed huckleberry yogurt and miniature huckleberry donuts. Lunch specials include roasted rosemary-and-thyme-infused chicken and turkey croque monsieur with Gruyere cheese and a huckleberry dipping sauce and Peking duck wings with a huckleberry lime glaze and fried parsnips. Governors Tea Time specialties will include huckleberry macarons; and dinner specials feature roasted rack of venison with a blood orange huckleberry compote. For dessert, guests can sample a huckleberry budino (Italian custard) with marshmallow whipped cream and candied lime.
Meanwhile guests can also enjoy rejuvenating spa treatments at the onsite Rocky Mountain Spa, which offers separately priced facials and massages and boasts an included-with-stay sauna, fitness center and enormous 11-by-17-foot hot tub overlooking Brooks Lake and the Pinnacle Buttes. And sleeping soundly in cozy lodge rooms or private cabins with goose-down comforters and terrycloth spa robes is the norm at this secluded mountain lodge that hosts no more than 36 people at a time, creating a true VIP experience for its guests.
